Is our Republic doomed by its own gifts of freedom?  This excellent article from New York magazine looks at this very premise.

While neither a Trump supporter nor detractor, it is beneficial to look at the current happenings through the optics of hyper-populism and the dangers thereof.

Populism develops an inertia of its own and once it reaches critical mass, it is sometimes the harbinger of ill tidings. I do not know if this is the case, but worth considering nevertheless.

Take a look at the article, keep in mind it has does have a natural left bias, and think about the points raised and the future implications on this Great Experiment called the United States of America.
